Backstory[]
Aden had a difficult home life. His mother died when he was young. He and his two brothers Sean and Justin were raised by their alcoholic father Larry. Worse than that, Aden's paternal grandfather Stan came to live with the family and sexually abused his grandchildren. This had a profound effect on Aden. Later on, Aden came to learn that the abuse was inter-generational and that Stan had interfered with Larry too. Yet when Larry suspected that Stan was abusing his grandchildren, he looked the other way and let it happen.
2005[]
Aden first appeared in August 2005 when he auditioned for a role in Colleen Smart's play. He flirted with Cassie Turner who had just split up with Ric Dalby. Aden approached Ric to double-check that they had actually split up, because he wanted to ask her out. Ric gave him the go-ahead but soon realised how jealous he was. When Aden was invited to dinner at the Caravan Park, he and Ric started goading each other. The next day at footy training, things boiled over between the two. Ric tackled Aden very robustly on the pitch, injuring him. Aden was knocked unconscious and taken to hospital. Aden's big brother Sean immediately sought revenge and bashed Ric quite badly. Aden lied to give his brother an alibi. When Sean later took Ric's foster father Flynn Saunders hostage, Cassie confronted confronted Aden. He admitted he had given Sean a false alibi. Cassie dumped him and he wasn't seen for some time.
2007-2010[]
Aden returned in 2007 and immediately began to ruffle feathers in the Bay. He butted heads with Geoff Campbell who was playing on his footy team, and with coach Tony Holden. He also tried to bait Donald Fisher by photoshopping a fish onto a photo of himself and his wife Marilyn. Fisher, seasoned pro that he was, simply complimented him on his skills. Aden earned a well-deserved punch from Lucas Holden after he picked on Annie Campbell one time too many.
He took Tamsyn Armstrong to the Year 12 School Formal and got her drunk. He then brought her outside and tried to seduce her on the beach. One of his friends filmed the encounter on his phone and shared the footage. In no time at all, it had spread around the school and there was consternation at the event. He clashed with teachers Brad Armstrong and Sally Fletcher who had learned about it. Then to bring the disastrous evening to a close, he cut the power.
Aden's troublemaking continued when he went to a party with Matilda Hunter and acted like a galah. When his group's designated driver was found drunk, Cassie decided to drive him home. She had a bit of drink taken herself and also had to contend with Aden waving a reefer in her face as she tried to drive. She crashed the car and Aden's leg was badly damaged. That brought his footy career to an end, which affected him profoundly. He later suffered an HIV scare when Cassie revealed that she had been infected with the virus. He cast his mind back to the car crash and how he could've been infected by her. His test results were negative but his attitude puzzled his doctor.
He had a huge row with his father Larry and was taken in by his friend Roman Harris. Aden was triggered when he saw a photo of Roman in his army uniform in his house, and bolted. With nowhere to go, he hid out in the closed Beachside Diner which had been condemned due to earthquake damage. He was trapped under the rubble but was found when Floss McPhee had a psychic moment. The truth about Aden's past came out; when he was a child his WWII hero grandfather Stan had sexually abused him after moving into the family home. Larry had turned the other way and failed to help, even though he too had been abused by Stan as a child.
Aden felt he couldn't return home because of the bad memories so he moved in with Roman. Roman's teenage daughter Nicole had just moved into the house too and there was a spark between the two. They decided not to act on it out of respect for Roman. Instead, he began to date Belle Taylor.
Aden snapped after learning that his father Larry had just mowed down Jai Fernandez and Axel Hay while he was drunk driving. Larry had fled the scene and was injured. Aden took him hostage and refused to allow him any medical assistance. When Rachel Armstrong, and then Belle, tried to intervene he simply added them to his hostages list. Angelo Rosetta finally ended the siege and Aden was hospitalised. He finally got the therapy he needed and returned home. By now, Belle had moved on and was dating Angelo.
After attending court, he was given community service. He took a job on a building site but noticed something untoward about the plans. After making contact with Belle to look for advice on this, the two became closer. They decided to give things another go, but that she'd break up with Angelo first. Before she had the chance, both of them were beaten up badly in separate attacks. Belle suffered from PTSD after her attack and began to struggle with drug addiction and anxiety. This destabilised their relationship. Nicole was still lurking in the background and Aden occasionally gave into his attraction to her.
After Roman stumbled across Aden and Nicole together, he chucked him out. Meanwhile, Belle had taken up with Liam Murphy. After taking some drugs, Liam almost jumped off a motel roof and had to be talked down by Aden. By now, Aden had embarked on a new career as a fisherman. When Roman was sent to jail, he asked Aden to look after his house. He and Belle moved into it together and they got engaged. He re-joined Tony's footy team but got entangled in an illegal betting scam. He needed the money but it almost backfired on him.
Aden and Belle got married but it was under a cloud. Belle had learned that she was dying of an aggressive form of cancer and wouldn't live for much longer. She died just two weeks after their wedding. Aden turned into a recluse and also nearly got into trouble for going on an illegal abalone fishing expedition. He was rescued by Hugo Austin. Morag Bellingham and Martha MacKenzie began to keep a closer eye on him. He took a new job working part-time in the new diner and in the bait shop.
Despite their past differences, Aden and Geoff became friends. What wasn't so pleasant was the return of Liam Murphy. He began to date Nicole. After finding a letter from Belle telling him to move on with his life, Aden decided to take that advice. He began a relationship with Nicole.
Aden was shocked to learn that his brother Justin had been hospitalised after a car accident. When he was released from the hospital, the two brothers found their father dead. It wasn't clear whether Larry had been killed by Justin or in the car accident and they tried to hide the body. They almost got into trouble over this. Justin had been a soldier for some years and wasn't impressed by the directionless life Aden was leading in the Bay. He advised him to join the army. While Aden wasn't interested in a military career, he recognised that he needed to make changes to his life. He decided to move to the city with Justin and broke up with Nicole.
