Ailsa's Attacker
In Ep 1699 (25 May 1995) Ailsa Stewart served an young man in the Bayside Diner. His demeanour unnerved Ailsa. Alf, who was helping her out, didn't like the look of him either. This customer (billed in the end credits as "Beggar") sat in the diner for hours nursing some chips he'd ordered. When she was closing up the diner for the evening, Ailsa asked him to pay up. He told her he had lost his wallet. Eager to get him out of the building, Ailsa told him he could come back and pay for his food another time.

Ailsa's attacker in full flight
When Ailsa was leaving the diner shortly afterwards, she was assaulted by a man who was waiting for her to leave the premises. The robbery happened off-screen and it was revealed afterwards that he had smashed the phone, ordered her to lie on the floor and had taken the day's takings. Ailsa also mentioned that her attacker smelled bad. Certainly, she and Alf firmly believed that the diner's non-paying customer was the culprit.
The attack rattled Ailsa greatly and she soon suffered a nervous breakdown. It was during this time that she took some out of date pills which caused her to hallucinate. Infamously, she saw the ghost of the late Bobby Simpson emerge from her fridge door.
"Beggar" was played by Steve Le Marquand.
