Alex appeared intermittently on the show throughout 1988. He made a one-off appearance in February and was reintroduced for 14 episodes in April/May. His character was an obsessive sports jock who expected his students to have the same narrow focus as he did. He fell out with Steven Matheson over this and ran into more problems later on. He wasn't all bad - thanks to him, Pippa's wheelchair bound brother Danny found a new purpose in life. For Alex's final stint on Home and Away, he was joined by his dodgy on-screen brother Gary. He left town after Gary's death.

Alex had guest roles in Heartbreak High, Water Rats, Xena: Warrior Princess, Sea Patrol and Mabo. He also appeared in Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991)
