Amanda Newman Phillips
Amanda Newman-Phillips (now known as Amanda Benson) played the recurring role of Narelle Smart from March to October 1988. At the time, producers hoped she might be Home and Away's answer to Kylie Minogue. If you're reading this now and asking "Who?", you've got your answer. Amanda only appeared on Home and Away for six months and never made it to the legendary opening credits. However, she did meet her now husband Greg Benson on the set. Greg played Matt Wilson, though the majority of his screen appearances happened after she had left.[1]

Amanda Newman-Phillips was born in Parramatta, New South Wales. She studied acting at The Ensemble Studios with Hayes Gordon and graduated in 1987. She appeared in a few TV series before Home and Away but H&A was her biggest TV role to date. [2]

She played the recurring role of Narelle Smart in 1988, first appearing in episode 50. She was last seen in Episode 188, when Narelle moved away in the hope of finding a man. In 2016, she made a brief return to Summer Bay, playing a different guest character.

Amanda had a family with husband Greg Benson. She continues to act, appearing most recently in A Place to Call Home and Deadly Woman. She also runs a drama school.[3] She has begun to appear in more TV productions in recent years. In 2019, her son Dylan made a guest appearance on Home and Away [4]
