Backstory[]
Billie was born in 1992. She was the younger sister of Martin "Ash" Ashford but lost touch with him when he went to prison. Her brother Luke died while fighting in the army (it was later discovered that this was untrue). She began a relationship with Dean Sanderson who was a criminal accomplice of Ash's. He was an unsavoury individual who killed a security guard while carrying out a robbery with Ash. Ash was framed for bashing the security guard and went to prison. Billie turned against Ash after Dean lied to her about the robbery. Afterwards, Billie and Dean settled in an outback town. and she took a job working in a bar. One of her workmates was barman Sam Kennedy. When she finally left Dean, Sam tried to protect her. He got smashed over the head with a baseball bat by Dean and was left deaf in one ear.

Billie (2016)
In 2015, Ash and Darryl Braxton looking for her in the outback. Although they found the bar where she used to work, they learned she had left town. Her ex-colleague Sam filled Ash in on what had happened to Billie, and how he came to be deaf in one ear. While Ash drowned his disappointed sorrows in the bar, Brax went in search of Dean. He followed him into an abandoned mine where he'd stashed the money from the robbery. Brax beat him to the point of unconsciousness and took the money. Unbeknownst to Brax, Sam wasn't too far behind them. He killed Dean by hitting him over the head with a spade. Brax was later convicted of Dean's murder because his fingerprints were found at the scene. He was later released after Sam finally confessed.
Billie and Ash finally met when they both visited Luke's grave on Anzac day. She reluctantly agreed to come to Summer Bay for a visit and learned that Dean was dead. With some help from Ricky Sharpe, she finally accepted that Dean had lied to her about Ash. She and her brother parted on good terms and she left town for a short while. She had been homeless for some time but was happy to live out of her car.
On her return to town, she turned down the chance to spend the night in a caravan and instead stayed in the Braxton's house. What she hadn't bargained for was an accommodation mix-up and an unexpected one-night-stand with Kyle Braxton.
In June 2015 Billie developed a crush on Dr Nate Cooper after he rescued her from drowning. Although he didn't fancy her back, her feelings for him intensified. As well as trying to undermine his relationship with Constable Kat Chapman, she made advances towards him. When Nate turned her down, Billie *seemed* to accept this. Shortly afterwards she got Nate alone in the gym and successfully manipulated things so that it looked like he had sexually assaulted her. Her fake screams attracted the attention of Chris Harrington who came to her rescue. At the police station, Nate was questioned by Sergeant Mike Emerson and was surprised to see an explicit text that had been sent to Billie's phone from his. Nate was arrested for the attempted assault of Billie. She was later caught out by Chris Harrington and admitted to everything. She was arrested.
In July, Billie raised the alarm when she noticed that Leah Patterson's house was on fire. She and Zac MacGuire went into the burning house to rescue Oscar MacGuire and Matt Page. During the commotion, she was left behind in the house and was badly injured by falling debris. After she was rescued, Kat Chapman arrested her and charged her with arson. Ash was still disgusted with her after her behaviour towards Nate. He didn't believe she was innocent and didn't want to know her. She began to sink into a depression after this. It was only when Nate had a word with Ash, that he had a change of heart. Ash went to visit her but when he admitted he wasn't sure she was innocent, she angrily disowned him. She then wrote a letter to Ricky saying that Brax had faked his death and that Ash had lied to her. She released herself from hospital even though she wasn't fully better, mentally or physically. She went missing and after a search, was found standing on top of a headline by Kat. In the commotion that followed, Kat almost plunged to her death but was saved by Billie. After she was hospitalised, she returned to living rough in her car.
Some months later, Billie found an unconscious Oscar MacGuire. She came to his aid but as soon as he came around, he accused her of trying to burn Leah's house down while he was in it. She called the police, who came to rescue Oscar. By now Ash had realised she was innocent but she still had to face a trial for the arson attack. When her court case came around, she believed that she would go to prison. She was saved from being convicted when Hunter King finally admitted that he had started the fire.
Now settled into the Bay, the 23 year old Billie began an unexpected relationship with 17 year old schoolboy VJ Patterson. VJ's mother Leah was horrified by the relationship, not just because of the age gap but Billie's history. Still, she came around as did VJ's stepfather Zac MacGuire. On his 18th birthday VJ proposed to Billie but she turned him down. The reason for her refusal was a dark secret she had been keeping to herself. Just as she had started seeing VJ, she had been raped by a masked man in the gym. She kept the attack a secret but she soon realised she was pregnant. Her rapist and father of her child was later revealed to be Irene Roberts' son Mick Jennings. At first Billie led everyone to believe that VJ was the father of her child. She gave birth to a baby girl that she named Luc.
In 2017 Billie began to suffer from a persistent cough. She collapsed at baby Luc's blessing and was rushed to hospital. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer that was progressing very quickly. Told she only had a short time left, she and VJ married at the hospital. She then went to the beach with VJ and Luc. She died in VJ's arms as the sun rose.
