Backstory[]
Cash grew up on a farm with his sister Felicity (Flick). His parents were Anthony and Jennifer Newman. Tragically, the siblings lost both their parents. Their father Anthony struggled with life as a single father and he committed suicide. The Newman siblings were later taken in by Gary Morrow and his wife Katherine.
Home and Away (2021 - )[]
Cash first appeared on Home and Away in June 2021 (Episode 7584) when he arrested Justin Morgan. To nobody's surprise, he soon found himself busy investigating multiple crimes. These included the murder of Susie McAllister, dealing with Kieran Baldivis and the bizarre organophosphate attack on the Salt restaurant. Cash's sister Felicity came to Summer Bay shortly after his arrival but the pair's relationship could be described as rocky
Cash began a relationship with Jasmine Delaney but that was put on hold when she left to help out on her in-law's farm. He later began a relationship with Eden Fowler and got engaged to her in 2024.
In 2024 Cash quit the police force after being placed on restricted duties. He took a job working as a bodyguard for actress Stevie Marlow but she was eventually killed by the man who had been stalking her. He got his old job back and was made Senior Constable at Mangrove River police station.
His sister then met a guy named Rory and they fell instantly in love. However, while on the job, Cash realises that his car had been graffitied by the River Boys, with their leader being Rory himself. He was convinced that the River Boys were responsible for the death of Senior Constable Franklin McGrath, whom Cash was replacing. They ended up finding Rory's friend Dingo responsible for the murder, as they found pictures of him inside a car nearby at the time and a bag filled with the murder weapon and McGrath's police badge at the police raid of the gang base. Cash knew there was another person in the car at the time, but was shocked when Rory came clean to the whole thing. Felicity didn't believe him at first, but when she then spoke to Rory before his trip to remand, she finally accepted his guiltiness.
In August 2024, Felicity decided to throw Cash and Eden an engagement party on the beach. Cash stood up for Eden when her estranged brother Levi showed up uninvited, but she eventually let him stay as she met her other sister, Abigail, while with him. When they migrated to Salt for the remainder of the night, Felicity had a talk with Cash and said how she thought they weren't cursed and that they deserved a happy life. However, they weren't to know the tragedy that would strike that night...
As Cash and Eden slow danced, Felicity gave a loving look to her brother and then her estranged ex-husband Tane, before her vision began to blur. She put her hand to her head in pain before dropping to the ground, unconscious. At the hospital, Cash was told by Doctor Bree that she had suffered a brain aneurysm, and she may have permanent brain damage even if she survived. Cash stayed by his sister's side as she recovered, but she then had a second bleed, resulting in permanent brain death. As Cash was her only surviving family member, he had to make the heartbreaking decision to turn off the life support, agreeing to donate her organs to a better cause.
Cash made it clear that he wanted a small funeral in their hometown, so made it family only. Him and Eden travelled to his foster father Gary's place, in order to have the funeral there. After the ceremony, Cash took Eden aside and told her that everything he'd ever loved ended up at the graveyard, and broke up with her to protect her from that curse.
Recent episode promos have shown that Cash may be willing to fight his pain in the worst way. For example, on the 28th of August, it writes that "Cash goes down a dark path", possibly hinting at him using drugs or alcohol to help him through his pain. Also, a promo for the 5th of September shows that "Eden struggles with Cash's coldness", hinting that the break-up may be more long term than expected.
