Doris Peters eavesdrops
Doris Peters was a friend of Celia Stewart's and every bit as much of a gossip as she was. She was only seen in the pilot episode because actress Gwen Plumb decided to join the cast of Richmond Hill in the meantime[1]. Doris continued to be mentioned by other characters on the show until around 1996. This is surprising, given that she had only made one one-screen appearance.
Doris had a lot of similarities to Celia. As well as being active in the local church and an unashamed gossip, she travelled around town on a bicycle. In the pilot episode, she was seen calling into Ailsa Hogan's shop and bringing her up to date on Summer Bay's newest arrivals - the Fletcher family. When Pippa Fletcher called into the shop moments later and introduced herself to Ailsa, Doris hid behind some shelves and eavesdropped on their conversation.
Gwen Plumb played Ada Simmonds in The Young Doctors from 1976-1983. Ada bore a lot of similarities to Doris.
