Duncan was the son of a Scottish immigrant called Angus Stewart who was credited with founding Summer Bay in the 1850s. Duncan married in the early 1900s and had at least two children. One of them was Gordon Stewart who went on to be Alf Stewart's father. Duncan was called into action in WW1 and lost his life.
