Evan Slater was the father of Ryder Jackson and was seen in Home and Away in May-June 2020. He was played by Cameron Daddo.
Backstory[]
Evan was given up for adoption as a baby and had an identical twin called Owen Davidson. He never knew about Owen during his lifetime. As a young man, Evan worked as a musician on a cruise ship. He had a brief relationship with Quinn Jackson and Ryder was the result. When Quinn gave birth to Ryder, Evan shot through, leaving her to raise her child alone.
2020[]
Evan came to Summer Bay to get to know his son. What he didn't reveal straight away to him was that he had mesothelioma and only had months to live. He became closer to Roo Stewart and admitted to her that his days were numbered and that he didn't want to tell Ryder yet. Roo went behind Evan's back and told Ryder anyway, swearing him to secrecy.
Ryder convinced Evan to do a charity gig at Salt and he did so. Afterwards he skipped town but Ryder found him in hospital. He convinced his father to come back to Summer Bay. Evan stayed for a while in Summer Bay House and taught his son how to play guitar. However, Evan's health was steadily deteriorating and he decided it was time to move to a palliative care unit in Brisbane. Roo went to Brisbane to be with him and returned a few weeks later after he had died.
After Evan's death, his twin brother Owen unexpectedly came to Summer Bay. He learned for the first time that he had had a twin brother and a nephew. His romance with Roo hit the buffers when they both realised that she still had feelings for Evan. Although the pair hadn't had the chance to become intimate, she felt that things would have gone in that direction.
