Fishers 1st house 1992

Fisher's House (Jan 1992)

Donald Fisher's first house was an ever-present location between 1988 and April 1992. It was a single storey house and arguably, looked more modern than the house he later moved into. The house changed hands in January 1992 and was lived in briefly by Julia and Meg Bowman.

1988-1992[]

It's unclear how long Donald Fisher had lived in the house before 1988. It was seen regularly on screen from the show's beginning until 1992. As befitting a man who liked to read, the living room had multiple bookcases and plenty of books. Donald was also a keen chef so the kitchen was often seen too.

Donalds 1st house 1

In 1992, Donald's neighbour Joe Bowman approached him out of the blue and made a generous offer to buy the house. He explained that he was eager to buy it so that his daughter and granddaughter could live near him. Donald was taken aback because he had lived in the house for many years and the thoughts of moving had never crossed his mind. Still, it was an offer that couldn't have come at a better time. Donald had recently learned that his house had developed structural issues which would be costly to remedy. Joe, who happened to be a builder, was happy to buy the house and carry out the repairs himself. Donald accepted his neighbour's offer and moved out shortly afterwards. He bought and moved into a larger house at 17 Marlin Street. His niece Lucinda and her fiancé Nick moved from this house to the new one.

The redecorated living room

Joe Bowman's daughter Julia and his granddaughter Meg quickly moved into the house. The reason for Joe's eagerness to buy the house soon became clear - Meg was terminally ill with leukaemia and didn't have much time left. Julia was eager for her daughter to live a normal life without people knowing how ill she was, and had left her old life in the city to do this. The house underwent some renovations after the Bowmans moved in. The most obvious changes were to the bookcases in the living room and the modernisation of the kitchen. When Meg died in April, Julia decided to leave the Bay again and the house was put up for sale.
