Backstory[]

Young Frank

8 year old Frank

Frank was the son of Helena and Les Morgan, His home environment was not a good one - his mother was an alcoholic and his father was a career criminal. The opening scenes of the Home and Away pilot episode are set in 1978 and show eight year old Frank being chased and caught by a policeman. Already he was known to the police and had been arrested three times. This background information didn't faze Tom and Pippa Fletcher at all. They fostered Frank and changed his life for the better. In the flash-forward to the present day, Frank was shown to be a pleasant young man who had a close relationship with his foster parents.

1988-1989[]

When Tom and Pippa Fletcher relocated to Summer Bay, Frank came with them. He secretly became romantically involved with Roo Stewart which caused some problems with her father Alf. He split up with Roo and unbeknownst to him, she became pregnant with Brett Macklin's child. After learning that Brett didn't want anything to do with his child, Roo seduced Frank and tricked him into thinking that he was the father of her child. The pair got engaged and would've tied the knot if Roo hadn't jilted Frank at the altar. Distraught, Frank drove away from the church at speed and was badly injured in a car crash.

Frank's first jobs in Summer Bay were working in Alf and Ailsa's shops. He was eager to find a better job and eventually was offered one with the Macklin Group. He had mixed feelings about this because his first boss was Brett Macklin. By now he had moved out of Summer Bay House and into the flat behind Ailsa Stewart's shop. His flatmates included Narelle Smart, Martin Dibble and Philip Matheson.

In the meantime, Frank's foster sister Bobby had developed feelings for him. At first he wasn't interested and only saw her as a friend. That changed when he comforted her in the aftermath of her friend Alan Fisher's untimely death. The pair went on to marry but it was a short-lived marriage. Frank was on the rebound from Roo and in time he came to realise she was the woman he really loved. They split up and Frank moved to the city to be with Roo. They later moved to New York, with Frank taking a job with the Macklin Group there. When his foster mother Pippa remarried in 1991, he and Roo sent a telegram from the Big Apple.

Frank's return in 1991

In 1991 Frank returned to Summer Bay unexpectedly. His marriage to Roo had broken up and he believed he was still in love with Bobby. Bobby was now engaged to Greg Marshall, father to her foster son Sam. Alf wasn't too happy to see his former son-in-law back in the Bay after what he had done to Roo but most of the other residents were pleased that he had come back. He tried to persuade Bobby to split up with Greg and for a brief time, it looked like that was going to happen. In the end, Bobby decided that Frank was just a bloke who had walked out on her 3 years previously and that her future lay with Greg and Sam. Disappointed, Frank left Summer Bay and invented a new job in London when explaining to Ailsa where he was heading next.

Frank next visited in 2000 to attend his foster sister Sally's wedding to Kieran. The wedding didn't go ahead but he spent some time reminiscing with his old foster siblings and Pippa about the good old days. Not to be deterred by the drama of that particular day, he came back in 2002 to celebrate Summer Bay's centenary. He saw several of his old friends get caught up in the MV Mirigini sinking. Wisely, he hasn't returned since.
