John Palmer played by Shane Withington
John Palmer is a current cast member who has been on Home and Away since 2009. Because of this, he is one of the longest serving characters in the show's history. John is a lifeguard and for several years was the husband of Marilyn Chambers. He was originally quite an unlikeable character but evolved into a lovable rogue. John is played by Shane Withington.

John and Marilyn
John Palmer was born on 7th October 1959 and was the only child of George and Enid Palmer. George died in 1969 when John was 10. John was always led to believe it was from a heart attack.
2009-[]
When John first appeared on H&A, he was married to Jenena and was stepfather to her son Trey. Their marriage broke down some months later.
John began a relationship with headmistress Gina Holden. They married in 2010 and in 2012 they took in Jett James. Their marriage went through its ups and downs, with John's attraction to Marilyn causing problems. Gina died suddenly in March 2013 and soon afterwards John began seeing Marilyn. They married in 2014 and for some years were one of Summer Bay's more solid couples. The wheels started coming off the wagon and they split up in 2020.
In 2021 John started dating a real estate agent called Susie McAllister. What he didn't know was that she was a swindler who faked her interest in him in order to get her hands on his savings. That she did, and she also swindled Justin and Leah out of $90,000 of their savings. Susie was later found murdered.
