Maddy Osborne was a main character from 2013-2016. She was played by Kassandra Clementi. She was fostered by Roo Stewart and Harvey Ryan, which was a nod to the original fostering roots of the show.

Backstory[]
Maddy was from a middle-class family but had a dysfunctional relationship with her mother Tanya. While still at school, she began a relationship with Spencer Harrington. While her parents were fine about it, Spencer's parents weren't. After they forbade Spencer from seeing Maddy, the couple decided to run away together.
2013-2016[]
Maddy and Spencer arrived in Summer Bay. With no money, they started sleeping in the local High School and survived on food they'd scavenged. They were found by Sasha Bezmel, who convinced Roo Stewart and Harvey Ryan to take them in. At first Maddy and Spencer pretended they were brother and sister but the truth came out. It didn't matter all that much in the end because their relationship soon ended. At one point, Maddy was agreeable to returning to her family but changed her mind when she found out that her mother was planning to send her away to a boarding school in Melbourne.
Maddy went off the rails for a while after the break-up with Spencer. She befriended Casey Braxton and then tried to seduce him . Casey rejected her advances sensing it was for the wrong reasons. Maddy later went to a party with Casey and took a liking to Josh Barrett. She snuck off with Josh, much to Casey's concerns. He knew that Maddy was hoping to lose her virginity (one reason he had turned her down) and didn't think her behaviour at the party would end well. Casey got into a punch-up with Josh and took Maddy away from the party with him. However, Josh and his brother Andy started following them and things quickly escalated into a car chase. That ended abruptly when Casey's car was hit by a four-wheel-drive. Casey was badly injured in the crash but he managed to haul an unconscious Maddy out of the car before it exploded.
Maddy began seeing Josh anyway, though it was clouded by him being persona non grata with the Braxtons. The couple were later accused of starting a fire at Mangrove River High School, because they had been spotted on CCTV there. The truth was, they had been sleeping in the school after running away from home. Roo wasn't certain Maddy was innocent, which caused problems for them. On the other hand, Maddy had suspicions that Josn might've been the one who started the fire. This shook their relationship for a while but they soldiered on for a while. Eventually they split up and Josh began to date Evelyn MacGuire. Maddy had a one night stand with Oscar MacGuire.
Despite the split with Josh, Maddy continued to have feelings for him. When he refused to go to the School Formal with Evelyn, Maddy assumed it was because he still had feelings for her. She was wrong on that - Josh simply couldn't afford to go and he handled it badly because of his embarrassment. Still, Maddy later took advantage of a situation where Josh and Evelyn weren't going well, and she seduced Josh.
In November 2014 Maddy began to feel ill and thought she might be pregnant. At first she assumed that Josh was the father but when Marilyn Chambers pointed out that she looked to be more than eight weeks pregnant, that brought Oscar into the picture. Maddy still had feelings for Josh and thought of the pregnancy as an opportunity to become a family with him. She was honest with Oscar about him possibly being the father but she tried to hide the truth from Josh. All of this became irrelevant when Dr. Nate Cooper came back to her with some bad news. She wasn't pregnant but the tests they'd run had uncovered a suspicious mass growing on one of her ovaries. Maddy underwent surgery and lost the ovary. This reduced her chances of having children. She was also told that she would have to begin chemotherapy because she had an aggressive form of cancer. This might make her infertile. The chance to have a family being taken away from her, along with fears about how successful the treatment would be, made Maddy stop and think. She decided to run away and gain new experiences before she died.
When Roo learned that Maddy had left, she asked Oscar to help find her. Oscar found Maddy's "bucket list" and figured out where she might be. He travelled to the city and found her. He convinced her to come home and undergo the treatment. He helped her realise that cancer might not be a death sentence. Oscar supported Maddy through her illness and their friendship turned into a romance. However, Oscar began to realise that Maddy's illness was affecting his school work and this had an unsettling effect on him. Meanwhile, Oscar's friend Matt Page had begun to develop feelings for Maddy. This undermined their relationship further. After Oscar kissed another girl at a party, that was the end of him and Maddy. Maddy began seeing Matt.
Meanwhile, Roo had finally decided that Maddy's mother Tanya needed to be told about her illness. Tanya came to Summer Bay straight away, furious that she had been kept in the dark for so long. She demanded that Maddy come home with her. Maddy told her she wanted to stay with Roo.
In May 2016, Maddy attended a hospital fundraiser at the Caravan Park. During the festivities, one of the caravans exploded. Oscar was killed straight away and Hannah Wilson lost her life shortly afterwards. Maddy's left arm became trapped under some debris and was badly damaged. At the hospital, Dr Tori Morgan gave Maddy the devastating news that she would have to have her arm amputated. Maddy underwent surgery and afterwards, broke up with Matt. She believed that he could no longer love her because of her disability. Maddy then snuck out of the hospital, not knowing that she had contracted an MRSA infection. This triggered a frantic search for her. She was eventually found in a local motel and returned to hospital.
Tanya learned that her arch-enemy Roo might've been at fault for the Caravan Park explosion. Safety checks hadn't been carried out before the fundraiser and Tanya decided to sue. Maddy talked her mother out of suing Roo and said she didn't blame her for what had happened. But she HAD decided it was time to move on from Summer Bay and wanted to travel the world. Matt was undecided about going with her but agreed in the end, so he could be with her. Deep down, Maddy knew that taking Matt away from the place he loved wasn't the right thing to do. So in the middle of the night while he was asleep, she quietly slipped away. She returned to the city with Tanya.

After Maddy's left arm was amputated, a scene was broadcast which suggested it was her right arm that was gone [1]. It turned out that it was a reflection in a mirror.
