Backstory[]

Nicholas Jasper Parrish was born in the late 1960s to Philip and Ros Parrish. He had a younger brother Shane Parrish born in 1976. It's unclear how many other children there were in the Parrish family. In a 1991 episode he said that there had been six kids and he had been the one who did most of the parenting. Both of Nick's parents were successful lawyers but were far more interested in their careers than their children. He rebelled against his parents by becoming a police officer, rather than following in their footsteps.

1991-1994[]

Nick was first seen in March 1991 when he was called to the Beach House to help Marilyn Chambers. She had just started a babysitting business but managed to lose one of the children she was looking after. Shortly afterwards, Nick moved into the Beach House as a lodger and became good friends with his housemates Marilyn, Bobby Simpson and her foster son Sam Nicholls.

In June 1991, Nick met Donald Fisher's niece Lucinda Croft and sparks immediately flew between the pair. Lucinda was a feisty character and her relationship with Nick rarely ran smoothly. Things weren't helped when Lucinda's ex boyfriend Ryan Lee came to Summer Bay and eased Nick out of the picture. Lucina and Ryan got engaged but when they were leaving for Perth, Nick won her back after lining the road with placards declaring his love for her. It worked and Nick got engaged to Lucinda. It wasn't the last anybody saw of Ryan. He returned in the following year intent on winning Lucinda back again. Lucinda's head was turned again but this time, Nick became an unwitting corner in a love triangle. When Nick finally found out that Lucinda had been cheating on him, it was the beginning of the end for the couple. Lucinda moved away, having gone from two love interests to none.

Nick's rebellious younger brother Shane moved to Summer Bay in May 1992. He caused quite a few headaches for Nick, including a spell where he was sent to a youth detention centre on trumped up charges. By now, Nick was living in Donald Fisher's house and the pair became good friends.

He dated Roxanne Miller for a while but it didn't work out (no surprises there). He became good friends with Greg Marshall and later, Luke Cunningham. In 1994, Nick and Luke toyed with the idea of buying Michael Ross's Boat Shed when it came on the market but they backed out when they learned how much extra money they'd need to sink into the business. Towards the end of his time in Summer Bay, Nick briefly dated teacher Beth Armstrong but lost interest when he learned she had had a fling with Tug O'Neale, one of her students. Now disillusioned with the direction his life and his career were going, Nick decided to take some time out from his job. He eventually took a posting elsewhere and exited the Bay without any fanfare.

Nick never returned to Summer Bay after this. He was abroad when his brother Shane died, and didn't make it to the funeral because nobody could get in contact with him.
