Rebekah Sophie Elmaloglou Baker (born 23rd January 1974, Paddington, New South Wales) played Sophie Simpson from 1990 to 1993. She made guest appearances in 2002, 2003 and 2005. She joined the cast of Neighbours in 2013, playing Terese Willis. She has been ever-present since then.
Pre Home And Away career[]
Rebekah was born on 23rd January 1974 in Paddington, NSW. Her father was born in France to Greek parents and was a cellist in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Her English-born mother is related to Dame Judi Dench[1]. Rebekah left school at 15 and trained at the Keane Kids studios in Sydney. She had substantial roles in the children's TV series Five Times Dizzy and Adventures on Kythera, as well as a part in the mini-series Emma: Queen of the South Seas.[2] Her younger brother Sebastian Elmaloglou (born 1989) later appeared in Home and Away as Max, a relative of the Sutherlands
Home And Away 1990-1993[]
Rebekah first appeared on Home and Away in January 1990. She became one of the Fletcher family foster children and one of the core group of teens for the next two years. Controversially, her character had a brief relationship with a man ten years older than her (David Croft, played by Guy Pearce) which ended when he died in a car accident. 9 months later she became a single mother and struggled greatly with hit. This paved the way for her exit - a big move to Perth to live with David's mother. Rebekah's final scenes were aired in January 1993.
Rebekah later revealed that during her time on Home and Away, she suffered from panic attacks and was later diagnosed with OCD. She also struggled with acne brought on by stress.
After Home and Away[]
After leaving Home and Away, Rebekah had some guest roles on TV. These included parts in Paradise Beach, A Country Practice, GP, Water Rats, and All Saints. She also had a role in the film The Sum of Us, which she spoke highly of. However, her career didn't quite take off in the way she hoped it would.
Home And Away 2002-2005[]
Rebekah returned to Home and Away twice, this time as a guest. In 2002-2003, she made 17 appearances. She made 3 more appearances in 2005. These episodes largely revolved around Sophie's rekindled relationship with her old boyfriend Blake Dean (Les Hill)
Neighbours[]
In 2013 Rebekah joined the cast of Neighbours playing Terese Willis. Her in-laws at the beginning of her time on Neighbours will have looked curiously familiar to Home and Away fans. Her on-screen husband Brad was played by Kip Gamblin (Scott Hunter) and her father-in-law Doug was played by Terence Donovan. Terence had previously played her on-screen father Al Simpson. She is now a core member of the cast. When Neighbours was cancelled in 2022, Rebekah and her husband Kane Baker sold their house and moved to live closer to her family. They then had to go househunting again when the show was saved.
She is active on Instagram if you want to catch up with what she's doing now.[3]
