Richard was born in Melbourne in 1970 but lived in Hong Kong and Malaysia for many years as a child[2]. In 1988 he began studying drama and dance at Victoria University. From 1990-1993 he studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney.

H&A[]
In 1997 Richard joined the cast of Home and Away as Dr Lachie Fraser. Lachie proved to be popular with viewers and in 1998 he was nominated for a Logie for Most Popular Actor. He left Home and Away in 1998 and his character died offscreen in 1999.
After H&A[]
Richard did a lot of stage work. Some of the productions he worked on include The Misanthrope, Design For Living, The Boy From Oz and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
He moved to the UK in 2003 and continued working in theatre. He worked on productions of Beauty & The Beast, Europe, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, Dial M For Murder, Daisy Miller, Footloose and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
In 2007 Richard made his debut on Emmerdale as farrier Jonny Foster. In a first for British TV, Richard's character entered into a civil partnership with another man. Jonny was written out in 2008 but returned in 2009 as part of his onscreen partner's exit storyline.
These days, Richard largely works as a voiceover artist and as an acting teacher.[4]
