Sid Walker
Dr Sidney "Sid" Walker was a main character from July 2009 (Ep 4909) to November 2013 (Ep 5873). He was the father of Dexter Walker, Indigo Walker and Sasha Bezmel. Sid was played by Robert Mammone.
Backstory[]
Sid was married to Jody Walker and had two children with her - Dexter and Indigo. Their marriage was rocked by his serial philandering. One of his affairs was with a nurse called Regina Bezmel, with whom he had a daughter - Sasha.
2009[]
The Walker Family Mk. 1
In 2009 Sid got a job in the Northern Districts hospital, covering for Dr. Rachel Armstrong who was on maternity leave. The family moved to Summer Bay, planning to make a fresh start. That turned out to be a short-lived thing. When Jody saw a text on Sid's phone from a nurse he had previously had an affair with, she left for good. Jody left their two children behind, to see how Sid would cope with being a single parent.
Sid helped Indigo's friend Nicole Franklin who was struggling after the death of Belle Taylor. He began to wonder if she was developing feelings for him, even though he didn't feel the same way about her. Nicole became jealous when she saw him having a coffee with a nurse called Therese who worked in the hospital with him. Sid did his best to avoid Nicole, so she scalded herself with coffee so he'd be forced to treat her. She then turned up at Sid's house in a revealing outfit and kissed him. Even though Sid pushed her away, Indigo walked in at the wrong moment and assumed the worst. Even though he tried to explain himself to Indigo, she and Dex decided to move away and live with their mother. Meanwhile, he still hadn't rid himself of the Nicole problem. It was eventually resolved when he set Nicole up with the help of Miles Copeland. Nicole called to his house and caught him and Therese in a state of undress. After this, he quickly left town hoping to reconnect with his kids.
2010-2013[]
Sid returned in 2010 when another job offer came up. He rented Martha's old farm from Alf. To his surprise, Dexter and Indigo returned and asked could they live with him. They'd fallen out with Jody. Nicole was still around but now wanted to put their history behind them. It was trickier for him at the hospital, where Therese was still mad at him. She threw a cup of coffee over him and the nurses refused to work with him. That changed when he tried in vain to save Hayley Doven who started haemorrhaging during labour. The compassionate way he dealt with her changed the nurses' minds about him. One of the nurses - Veronica - was so impressed she called to his house. Sid slept with her, which horrified his kids. It also made things a bit awkward because Marilyn Chambers had just asked him out and she quickly found out about Veronica. Still, it didn't deter her and they started going out.
Marilyn revealed to Sid that she was going to die soon. It transpired that Mitzy Fraser, an old psychic friend of Marilyn's, had made the prediction. This caused problems between the couple. Marilyn believed Mitzy while Sid thought she was spouting nonsense and was upsetting her. Mitzy later died and Marilyn survived past the day when she was supposed to die. It wasn't without its drama - on the day itself Marilyn nearly died rescuing a baby whose pushchair had rolled into the sea.
When Nicole became pregnant she didn't go through with an abortion like Sid had expected her to. Instead, Marilyn announced that she was going to bring the child up. Unsurprisingly this came as quite a surprise/shock to Sid and his children. He reluctantly agreed to go ahead with it, despite Morag Bellingham saying that aspects of paperwork going along with it was illegal. Over time, the tensions over the baby began to destabilise his relationship with Marilyn. He grew closer to Roo Stewart and confided in her that they weren't communicating any more. Nicole went on to give birth to baby George but eventually decided she didn't want to hand her child over after all.
Meanwhile, Sid wasn't all that happy with Indigo's relationship with Romeo Smith. After a bust-up, Indigo and Romeo moved in together. He was shocked when they went to Hawaii without telling him. He got drunk with Miles and admitted that his relationship with Marilyn was coming to an end. When Roo phoned him and told him that Romeo and Indi were planning to get married in Hawaii, he flew straight over to try and stop the wedding. He didn't succeed in stopping the wedding so he gave them his blessing. He also kissed Roo who rejected him.
Sid broke up with Marilyn and then learned that Dex was seeing April Scott behind Xavier Austin's back. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? Roo called to see him so they could discuss the rumours that they were now an item. They got together and while they were kissing, Indi walked in on them. Indi was disgusted and soon afterwards, Sid moved in with Roo to try and calm things on the home front. That didn't run smoothly either and eventually Alf Stewart and Romeo conspired to put father and daughter together on a boat to sort things out.
With his family and relationship briefly back on an even keel, a new wobbler came his way. Dex revealed he'd been in contact with his mother who was asking to stay. When Jody turned up, she revealed to Roo that she and Sid had never got divorced. Although Sid and Jody finally signed divorce papers, Roo broke up with him. She told him his family would always come before her.
Following up on a letter that Jody had left for him, Sid learned that he had another daughter. Her name was Sasha and was the result result of a fling with a nurse named Regina Bezmel. Regina had died and there was no-one else to look after Sasha, who wanted to meet him. Sid dealt with the news by going home and getting drunk, rejecting Roo when she came by to help. He lent money to Romeo to pay his rent, which led to Romeo and Indigo moving back in. He told them and Dexter what was going on and they all agreed to make contact with Sasha. He apologised to Roo but wouldn’t tell her what was going on. The beginning of Sid's relationship with Sasha was rocky and she delivered a coup de grâce when she deliberately messed up his potential date with Roo. Instead she ended up going on the date with Harvey Ryan, who she later married.
When Sasha started dating River Boy Stu Henderson, Sid tried to stop them seeing each other. He reluctantly agreed to it but it quickly turned into an abusive relationship. Stu began to hit Sasha, only for her to take him back over and over. When Sid saw him hitting her at the school formal he beat Stu up badly. He was arrested and charged with assault. When Charlie Buxton was shot, Sid declared her brain-dead. Darryl Braxton locked himself into her room with a gun to stop the life-support being turned off. Sid had to intervene to protect Dex and Indi and in the process ended up having to deal with Stu who was also in the hospital. This violated his bail conditions and he was sacked. That wasn't the end of his trouble with Stu. After he was found dead, he was briefly a murder suspect. In reality, it had been Sasha who'd accidentally killed him while fending off yet another attack with his fists. She went on trial for his murder but was cleared.
Sid was offered a job with the Flying Doctors but his family voted against him taking it. He got his old job back at the hospital after Stu Henderson's father Alan dropped his charges against him. Over the coming months Sid oversaw more drama involving Indi and Romeo and Dexter and April. In 2013 that job offer came up again and this time he decided to take it. He left, with Indi, April and Dex.
