Stacey Macklin

Stacey Macklin was a recurring character from September 1988 (Episode 169) to October 1989 (Episode 430). She ran the Summer Bay office of the Macklin Group, which was expanding in Summer Bay at the time. Stacey was played by Sandie Lillingston.

Backstory[]

Stacey Macklin was born in 1966 to Gordon Macklin and Mrs Macklin. She had a younger brother called Brett. Their father was a successful but ruthless property developer who saw women as second class citizens. Despite this, Stacey began working in the family business after she left school. Although she was good at her job, her difficult relationship with her father cast a shadow over her personal and professional lives.

1988-1989[]

Stacey was drafted in to run the Macklin's Summer Bay office when Gordon became unhappy with how Brett was running the operation. Soon after her arrival in town, she became romantically involved with Philip Matheson who was working as a doctor in the local hospital. Their relationship was fiery at times and they were on and off. During one of their splits, Stacey became engaged to Nicholas Walsh who was a friend of her father's. At one point she wrongly believed that she was pregnant but wasn't sure whether Nicholas or Philip was the father. Eventually she and Nicholas broke up and she got engaged to Philip. Their happiness was very short-lived, because Philip died soon afterwards. He was asleep in his rented flat in the annexe behind Celia's store when it was burned down by Dodge in an arson attack (Episode 293).

In 1989, Stacey and her friend Nina Olivera created a pop band called Image, featuring Lance Smart, Martin Dibble and Marilyn Chambers. They had some brief success but the project didn't last very long. They were also pretty terrible but that's beside the point. By now, Stacey was sharing a flat with Andrew Foley. After a heated row, their friendship took a passionate and non-platonic turn. They then tried to pretend that they didn't fancy each other but that didn't last long. She and Andrew got engaged but they soon ran into difficulties. Andrew was now working as a youth counsellor and had a tendency to bring his work home with him. After a bad experience with a drug addict called Mick who Andrew had taken home to live in their flat, she came to a realisation. Although she loved Andrew, they were too different to last the distance. With a heavy heart she broke up with him and moved to San Francisco to work with Nina again.

In 2005, her brother Brett made a brief return to Summer Bay. He revealed that Stacey was now running a Macklin office in Melbourne.

Although Stacey made approximately 135 appearances on Home and Away in 1988-1989 she never made it to the opening credits of the show.
