Tane Parata has been a main character since February 2020. He is a member of the Parata family which moved to Summer Bay in that year. He is played by Ethan Browne. He is the widower of Felicity Newman even though they had split up at the time of her death.

Backstory[]
Tane was born in New Zealand to parents Tui and Rawiri Parata. He grew up in The City alongside his brothers Ari and Mikaere. Mikaere and Tane were bad boys and this was something that caught up with both of them. Ari went to prison for 10 years. Mikaere was later killed when an attempted heist went wrong. Despite this, Tane ignored Ari's pleas to go straight.
2020-[]
In 2019 Tane's brother Ari, sister-in-law Gemma and their son Nikau moved to Summer Bay in search of a better life. Although he had stayed on in The City, it wasn't long before he too had made the move. At first the Paratas ran into problems in the area. They were wrongly accused of carrying out a robbery in the diner and clashed with local policeman Colby Thorne. Indeed, it was thanks to Colby that Tane, Ari and Nikau were prevented from flying back to New Zealand to scatter Mikaere's ashes.
Tane didn't waste much time getting friendly with the local ladies. He had a one-night stand with Amber Simmons and kissed Mackenzie Booth. He also dated Ziggy Astoni before getting into a relationship with Felicity (Flick) Newman. That started out as a one-night-stand but they got together for real after he was stalked by Felicity's colleague Anne Sherman. Anne was jealous that Tane didn't give her a second glance, and so she orchestrated a toxic chemical attack on Salt. Yeah, that'll get people's attention. Anyway, after some ups and downs Tane and Felicity got engaged. Their first attempt to tie the knot ended in disaster when the ute in which Felicity and her friend Eden Fowler were travelling ploughed into a petrol station. It had been tampered with by members of a bikie gang Felicity's police officer Cash had been grappling with. Tane rescued Felicity from the fiery wreckage but she went off the rails as she was wont to do at times. They patched things up and got married in Episode 8000.
Tane had always wanted kids, though they were something Felicity wasn't so enthusiastic about. He was delighted when she agreed to try for a baby with him, not knowing that she was continuing to take her contraceptive pills behind his back. When Tane found out, it brought their marriage to an abrupt end. Tane went on the rebound, having some one night stands including one with Harper Matheson.
In early 2024, Tane found an abandoned baby on the beach. He quickly became very attached to Baby Poppy (as she became known) and all but moved into the hospital to look after her. After learning that he could not temporarily foster her and that they had found other foster parents, he went on the run. He and Poppy hid out in his cousin Kiri's house for a while. When the saga was over, Tane appeared in court charged with kidnapping. His lawyer Marshall Aldrych managed to convince the judge that there was no malice behind his actions and he escaped a custodial sentence.
Tane went to the city for counselling and returned, having decided to dedicate his time to helping disadvantaged youths.
