H&a beach house outside

The Beach House as seen in 1990

The Beach House is located near the beachside in Summer Bay. It was first seen in 1990 and has been an ever-present location ever since. Initially a rental property, it has been home to many residents, from the Roberts family to the Harringtons.

It is not known who lived in the Beach House before 1990. In that year Adam Cameron and Matt Wilson rented the house from Ernie Jacobs who owned the property. They were later joined by Marilyn Chambers. In 1991, Marilyn bought the house from Ernie Jacobs and began to rent out rooms to help her pay her mortgage. Her earliest housemates were Bobby Simpson and Nick Parrish. Shortly afterwards, Bobby fostered young Sam Nicholls (later to be known as Sam Marshall).

When Marilyn left Summer Bay to marry Phil Bryant in 1992, she sold the house to Bobby Simpson and Greg Marshall. After Bobby's death, Greg returned to his old job as a long-distance truck driver and put the house up for auction. Donald Fisher came very close to buying the house for Sam, who was still grieving for Bobby and felt a strong attachment to his old home. Donald pulled out of the bidding at the auction and it was instead sold to Irene Roberts. Irene has lived there ever since, though the people who have shared the house have changed quite often down through the years.

Although the interior of the Beach House has been redecorated over the years, it is still recognisable. To this day, nobody is quite sure what exactly is at the top of those stairs! The exterior, on the other hand, has changed utterly. The original stock shots of the Beach House stopped being used towards the end of the 1990s and were replaced with those of a completely different house. It would appear that no external scenes have ever been filmed at this later house.
