Alf Stewart, flamin Alf, the Godfather Of Summer Bay.

Since 1852 and as of 2017, 165 years on, there has been a member of the Stewart family living in Summer Bay. The Stewart family were the founding family of the sunny Australian coastal town.

Over the series 28 year history, the characters have been fleshed out and well noted, when the show began it was noted that Alf Stewart's ancestors had founded the coastal town. In many episodes over the years Alf, Morag, Celia and even non Stewart family characters have often mentioned the history of Summer Bay and the lineage of the Stewart family, who originated in Scotland, 10000 miles away. Across the town there are a few monuments decidated to the Stewart family such as Stewart's Point and The Stewart Tree which is planted in Summer Bay High School.

Stewart family biography - Backstory[]

In about January or February 1852, a young sailor from Scotland named Captain Angus Stewart set sail from the Scottish coast bound for Australia. He was the cabin boy on the ship which landed on the coast of New South Wales. All his other crew mates were seasick. Angus sttled in Summer Bay and built most of the town. Many of the Summer Bay residents were of Scottish or English descent mainly. Angus married a woman and they had a son Duncan Stewart in about 1870. Angus had a tree planted in the grounds of the school and a lighthouse built on Stewarts Point.
