Viv Standish was born in 1945 in Summer Bay. She had a sister Hannah Standish. Viv met teenager Alf Stewart in about 1962 and they romanced, much to the disapproval of their families. In 1963 they became engaged but Viv left Alf soon after. She was pregnant with their child and gave birth to a son in 1964. She had him adopted to a childless couple. The son was Owen Dalby.
Some fans believe she may be Joan Ferguson in disguise. She mentions the prison officer uniforms and how they felt when being worn, though she may have masqueraded as an officer during an escape attempt. She died in Alf's arms in 2004, after a short illness.
