Backstory[]
Will Smith
Will was the eldest of three children Ken and Eve Smith had. His home life was chaotic because Ken was an alcoholic and Eve was violent. Ken moved out of home and lost touch with his children, while Eve was taken into psychiatric care. Will and his younger siblings Hayley and Nick were fostered. Will ran away from his foster home and ended up on the streets.
1998-2002, 2003-2005, 2010, 2011[]
While on the streets, Will met Damian Roberts who by now was training to become a priest. Damo told Will that his mother Irene sometimes took youngsters in. Will came to Summer Bay and lied to Irene, claiming that Damian had told him he could stay. Irene allowed him stay but was unaware he had an ulterior motive. He hoped he could move his younger siblings Hayley and Nick into Irene's house by getting his existing housemates to move out. He encouraged Chloe Richards to move in with her boyfriend James Fraser. He also tried to engineer a rift between Irene and Joey Rainbow but it didn't work. Worse still, he learned that Hayley and Nick were happy with where they were currently living. Irene had the last laugh because she made Will return to school.
He became good friends with Sam Marshall. He was attracted to classmate Gypsy Nash but it was complicated by her father Joel being the PE Teacher at the school. When Joel and Will started to get on well, Gypsy was annoyed by the idea of her boyfriend and dad being friendly. Will and Gypsy's relationship had many ups and downs, including a spell when he dated Peta Janossi and a pregnancy scare that he didn't handle well. He also had to deal with his alcoholic father's return. After Ken sobered up, they developed a close relationship. Ken later got engaged to Irene but died in an accident whilst repairing a car. In the meantime, both of Nick's siblings left foster care and moved to Summer Bay.
Gypsy cheated on Will with Charlie Nicholas. Will didn't take this well and vandalised the school field with a motorbike. He received community service for his troubles. He began to date Dani Sutherland but Gypsy never quite left his life. The pair slept together and he later learned that he was the father of his unborn child. He and Dani split up. Gypsy gave birth to their daughter - Lily - and they later married.
Although Will moved away, he continued to return to Summer Bay. After he and Gypsy began to have marital problems, he reverted to type and looked elsewhere. He hoped he could reconcile with Dani but she was now dating Scott Hunter. He also wasn't happy to see that Kane Phillips (who had raped Dani in the past) now seemed to be living a normal life. He moved back home to try and salvage his marriage.
He returned for his sister Hayley's wedding to Noah Lawson, Alf's 60th birthday and Hayley's abortive wedding to Kim Hyde. During his final return in 2011, Penn Graham was murdered. Will was revealed to have stabbed Penn in self-defence and was charged. It is unclear what happened to him after this.
